45 years ago, the company revolutionized boating by introducing the Sundancer, the original cruiser, giving boaters day-to-night comfort on the water. 

Sea Ray developed into a leader in the industry from one of the strongest brands in the past and is making strides to stay ahead of the competition today.

 Sea Ray was founded in 1959 by Cornelius Nathaniel Ray in Oxford, Michigan. 

Along with Arch Mahaffey, they were looking for a business opportunity and came across “Car Craft”, a small fiberglass manufacturing company. 

They acquired the brand and built it into the biggest boat company in the world at the time, eventually selling it to Brunswick Corporation in 1986. 

Now headquartered in Knoxville Tennessee, Sea Ray is still the world’s leading creator of superior quality pleasure boats.

First To Fiberglass

 Sea Ray was one of the first brands in the United States to utilize new fiberglass technology and had design and modeling done by General Motors, to bring fresh style and comfortability to boating. 

 Designer greats like Harley Earl, who had years of automotive pioneering at GM, brought his expertise to the boat industry back in the early 60s in collaboration with Sea Ray. He was behind the architecture of one of the most renowned cars in history, the Corvette.

 Now in collaboration with Designworks, the team keeps a future-focused approach, keeping an automotive-inspired design while maintaining their classic heritage.
