History of the Company
Cruisers, Inc. started out as the brainchild of several members of the Thompson family, in the mid-1950s in Oconto, Wisconsin. Two of the men were the sons of Chris Thompson, co-founder of the Thompson Bros. Boat Manufacturing Company in 1904 in nearby Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Brothers Roy and Grant chose to continue their father’s legacy by producing wooden lapstrake and cabin cruiser boats until fiberglass took over as the main construction material. Cruisers, Inc. stopped building wooden boats in 1966 and was purchased by the Mirro Aluminum Company in 1971. Roy Thompson retired in 1979 and the company was purchased again in 1980. In 1993, the company was reborn as Cruisers Yachts with a focus on building luxurious yachts with a full complement of amenities to ensure relaxation and comfort for every passenger. This legacy continues to the present day with two Oconto plants employing over 1000 people and one factory in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Features of the Boats
Cruisers Yachts’ boats range from 30 to 58 feet in length, including midsize and luxury yachts with many amenities for entertaining and comfort out on the water. Many models come with either gasoline or diesel engines. Cruiser Yachts was one of the first boat manufacturers to implement the Volvo Penta Integrated Propulsion System, which increases efficiency and speed with horizontally-oriented propellers instead of propellers installed at an angle. Some yachts come with luxuriously appointed bow lounges, upper and lower salons with open-concept flooring and 360-degree views of the horizon and tranquil staterooms filled with comfortable furnishings where you can relax at the end of the day.
Cruisers Yachts also has a Sports Series line of fast and sleek bowriders. These boats offer plenty of seating with their expansive arrangements, shaded cabins for shelter from the sun and ergonomic helms that give the operator full control of their vessel. Bowriders combine the luxury of yachts with speed and maneuverability on the water, along with the ability to tow skiers and stern ladders for easy entrance to the water.
